Meanwhile, a mixed trend on the sectoral front kept the traders busy wherein realty, metal and IT posted decent gains while FMCG traded subdued. Besides, buoyancy on the broader front further added to the positivity as both midcap and smallcap gained over half a percent each.

What should investors do?

Domestic markets will react to the outcome of the US Fed meeting in early trade on Thursday. A decisive move above 18,750 in Nifty would further fuel the recovery, else consolidation will resume.

Meanwhile, traders should maintain their focus on identifying stocks from the sectors which are trading upbeat. Apart from the index majors, one can selectively choose from the broader indices too, citing the recent improvement in their participation.

Key support & resistance levels for Nifty50:

The Nifty50 closed 0.28 per cent higher at 18,660. Key Pivot points (Fibonacci) support for the index is placed at 18638.96, 18624.04, and 18599.9, while resistance is placed at 18687.24, 18702.16 and 18726.3.

Key support & resistance levels for Nifty Bank:

The Nifty Bank closed 0.23 per cent higher at 44,049. Key Pivot points (Fibonacci) support for the index is placed at 44000.33, 43961.65, and 43899.04, while resistance is placed at 44125.55, 44164.23, and 44226.84.

Gross Open Interest:

Open Interest means the number of contracts open or outstanding in futures trading in NSE at any one time. One seller and one buyer together create one contract.

Here the gross values of Open Interest Positions taken by the four participants namely Client are Clients are the retail individual investors who invest in the derivatives instruments, DIIs are domestic individual investors, FIIs are foreign institutional investors and Pro are the proprietors and brokerage firms who trade on their own behalf.

FII Activity on Wednesday:

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) remained net buyers for Rs 372.16 crore in the Indian markets while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 926.45 crore, provisional data showed on the NSE.
