Equity benchmark Sensex scripted history as the index hit 62,000-mark for the first time ever. Similarly,  Nifty 50 too went past 18,500. Both equity benchmarks opened at record highs as Nifty50 started the day at 18,602.35, while S&P BSE Sensex 62,156.48.  Meanwhile, in a first, riding on a bull rally, the Nifty Bank too hit the 40,000-mark on Tuesday.

Larsen & Toubro Limited were the top gainers on both the indices. Besides, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Fin Serv, Tata Consumer were other top gainers on Nifty. On the 30-share Sensex, 23 gained, 7 stocks declined in the eraly trade.

The S&P BSE Sensex index had already created history in the preopen as the 30-share index went past 62,000-mark for the first time ever.  

The Asian markets were off to a good start on Tuesday as Nikkei 225 Index was trading 187 points above from the previous close at 29,213. Hong Kong's Hang Sang Index was also up over 300 points in the early trade on Tuesday, while Asia Dow was up 22 points.    

Earlier on Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 36.15 points, or 0.10%, at the open to 35,258.61. The S&P 500 opened gained 15,09 points, or 0.34%, at 4,486.46, while the Nasdaq Composite added 124.47 points, or 0.84%, to 15,021.81 at the closing bell.  

The Indian markets had closed Monday at record highs as Nifty50 and S&P BSE Sensex settled at 18,477.05 and 61,765.59 points.
