The stock markets ended in the red on Thursday – the weekly expiry day. The BSE ended the day at 52,568.94 going down by over 485 points or 0.92 per cent. Meanwhile, the broader market Nifty 50 ended Thursday at 15,726.55, down by 153 points or 0.96 per cent. Tata Motors was the biggest loser among the index stocks.

In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 6 stocks were trading in the green at the end of Thursday’s trading session while the remaining 24 stocks were trading in the red at the closing time. The top 5 gainers on Tuesday at close were Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid, HCL Technologies and Indusind Bank while the top 5 losers were Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy’s, ICICI Bank and SBI.

Meanwhile in the 50-share NSE Nifty 50, at the closing time only 7 shares advanced, 42 shares declined while the remaining 1 share remained unchanged. Tech Mahindra, SBI Life, Eicher Motors, Bajaj Auto and HCL Technologies were the top 5 gainers on Thursday. The top 5 losers in the day’s trade were Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel and ONGC. 

Most major indices including Nifty 50, Nifty Midcap 50, Nifty Next 50, Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services ended in the red while ended in the red on Thursday.          

Nifty Sectoral Indices        

  1. Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Bank ended 1.39 per cent down at 35,274.10  
  2. Nifty auto was down 0.9 per cent at 10,456. 
  3. Nifty Realty was also down by over 0.57 per cent and ended at 357.65.      
  4. Nifty PSU Bank ended at 2,475.00, down 1.96 per cent from the Wednesday closing.       
  5. Nifty Media, Nifty Metal, Nifty Pharma and Nifty FMCG ended in the red while Nifty IT ended in the green on Thursday.          

Today, the USDINR futures were trading at 74.8775 on the BSE against the USD at 3:45 pm moving with a positive bias, though almost flat from the previous closing price on Wednesday.
