The negative trend in the stock markets continued for the second straight day today. The BSE Sensex closed at 51,941.64, down by 0.6 per cent or almost 334 points. Meanwhile, the broader market NSE Nifty 50 closed at 15,635.35, going down by just over 104 points or almost 0.7 per cent. The markets achieved their lifetime highs on Monday.
 
 In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 8 stocks were trading in the green at the end of Wednesday’s trading session while the remaining 22 stocks were trading in the red. The top five gainers on Wednesday at close were Power Grid, NTPC, Titan, HCL Technologies and Asian Paints while the top 5 losers were Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv, Indusind Bank and Bajaj Finance.

Meanwhile in the 50-share NSE Nifty 50, at the closing time 11 shares advanced while remaining 39 declined. Power Grid, SBI Life, NTPC, Titan and Coal India were the top 5 gainers. The top 5 losers in the day’s trade were Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Shree Cement, Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Industries.  
 
All major indices including Nifty Midcap 50, Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services ended the day in the red.  
 
Nifty Indices  

  • Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Media was the biggest loser, ending down over 2 per cent.  
  • Nifty Realty was also down 1.6 per cent while Nifty Auto fell by 1.3 per cent at 10,734.40.
  • Nifty PSU Bank ended at 2,429.25, down by 1.4 per cent. Nifty Bank ended at 34,800.50, falling by 0.8 per cent.
  • Nifty Metal, Nifty Pharma and Nifty IT ended in the red on Wednesday.

Today, the USDINR futures were trading at 73.1150 on the BSE against the USD at 4 pm going up by 0.13 per cent.
