Indian stock markets on Tuesday ended with strength with banking and financial services sector stocks having a field day. The BSE Sensex ended at 52,769.73, up by almost 400 points or 0.8 per cent while the broader market NSE Nifty 50 ended at 15,812.35, gaining almost 119 points or 0.8 per cent. Nifty Bank was the top performer among the sectoral indices.

In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 22 stocks were trading in the green at the end of Tuesday’s trading session while the remaining 8 stocks were trading in the red at the closing time. The top 5 gainers on Tuesday at close were ICICI Bank, HDFC, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma and NTPC while the top 5 losers were HCL Technologies, Dr Reddy’s, Maruti Suzuki, Tech Mahindra and Hindustan Unilever.

Meanwhile in the 50-share NSE Nifty 50, at the closing time 34 shares advanced, while the remaining 16 shares declined. ICICI Bank, Grasim Industries, HDFC, Axis Bank and SBI Life were the top 5 gainers on Tuesday. The top 5 losers in the day’s trade were Adani Ports, Dr Reddy’s, HCL Technologies, Tata Consumer Products and Tech Mahindra.   

Most major indices including Nifty 50, Nifty Midcap 50, Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services ended in the green on Tuesday while Nifty Next 50 ended in the red.            

Nifty Sectoral Indices          

  1. Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Bank ended 1.35 per cent up at 35,673.40. ICICI Bank was the biggest gainer.     
  2. Nifty auto was up 0.57 per cent at 10,497.80.   
  3. Nifty Realty was also up by over 0.38 per cent and ended at 380.80.        
  4. Nifty PSU Bank ended at 2,492.65, up 0.78 per cent from the Monday closing.         
  5. Nifty Media, Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG ended in the red on Tuesday. Nifty Pharma and Nifty Metal ended in the green.            

Today, the USDINR futures were trading at 74.5975 on the BSE against the USD at 3:50 pm moving with a negative bias and down by 0.20 per cent on Tuesday.
