Nifty50 was trading negatively at 17,712 on Tuesday after falling by over 142 points or 0.8 per cent. Bharti Airtel remained the biggest loser followed by Divi’s Laboratories and HCL Technologies. Out of the 15 sectoral indices, 11 indices were trading negatively and three positively, while one index remain unchanged. We bring you the top performing indices along with the biggest duds.

Top Performing Indices – Only three indices were trading in the green during filing of this. The biggest gainer was Nifty PSU Bank, followed by Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty Metal. 

Nifty PSU Bank – This index was trading at 2,388.10, up over 1 per cent around this time. In the 13-share index, 12 shares advanced while 1 declined. The top 3 gainers were Indian Bank, Central Bank and Punjab National Bank (PNB) which were up over 4 per cent, 1.6 per cent and 1.4 per cent respectively. The index heavyweight State Bank of India (SBI) was the lone loser on the intraday basis, which was trading at Rs 445.80, down by 0.18 per cent.

Nifty Oil & Gas – This index was the second biggest gainer on Tuesday and was up over 1 per cent. It was trading at 7,695.25 around this time. In the 15-share index, 11 advanced while 4 declined. The biggest gainers were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) and GAIL (India) Limited with 4.6 per cent, 3.4 per cent and 3.3 per cent gains, respectively.   

Nifty Metal – This index was trading at Rs 5,521.60, up almost 0.3 per cent from the Monday closing price. The top three gainers were Coal India Limited, Vedanta Limited and JSW Steel Limited which were up 4.7 per cent, 1.3 per cent and 1 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the top losers were Adani Enterprises Limited, APL Apollo Tubes and National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO). While, Adani and APL lost over 2 per cent, NALCO shares lost over 1.7 per cent.  

Biggest Duds – The biggest three losers were Nifty Realty, Nifty IT and Nifty media. 

Nifty Realty lost over 4 per cent and was trading at 495.35. This Index has been trading with a lot of strength over last many trading sessions. Oberoi Realty Limited, DLF Limited and Prestige Estates Limited lost over 7 per cent, 4.5 per cent and 4.3 per cent respectively. Sobha Limited also lost over 4 per cent on the intraday basis.  

Nifty Media was down over 2.5 per cent around this time and was trading at 2,133.65. Two stocks gained while the remaining 8 declined in the 10-share index. TV18 Broadcast Limited and Network18 Media & Entertainment Limited were gainers and were up around 1 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively. PVR Limited, Inox Leisure and TV Today shares were among the top losers. The were down 2.8 per cent, 1.9 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively. Inox was the top gainer on Monday.  

Nifty Auto which was the top performer (up 3.2 per cent) on Monday was down by 0.2 per cent on Tuesday. Out of the 15 shares in Nifty Auto, 2 stocks advanced and 13 declined. The only gainers were Maruti Suzuki Limited and Eicher Motors. The biggest losers were Tube Investment of India Limited and Balkrishna Industries Limited. 

Other indices that were down include Nifty Bank (down 0.6 per cent), Nifty Financial Services (0.81 per cent), Nifty Financial Services 25/50 (0.7 per cent), Nifty FMCG (0.05), Nifty Pharma (0.84 per cent), Nifty Private Bank (0.7 per cent) and Nifty Healthcare (0.9 per cent). 

Meanwhile, Nifty Consumer Durable index remained unchanged and was trading at 26,646.55.
