Stock Market Holiday October 26: Stock market will remain closed on Wednesday, October 26, on account of Diwali Balipratipada. Both the leading stock exchanges -- the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain shut for trading between from 9:15 to 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

Balipratipada is observed on fourth day of Diwali. It falls on the first day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu lunar month Kartik. The day symbolises Deity Vishnu’s conquest over the demon king Bali.

As per the BSE, the trading holiday will be for the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment as well as Currency Derivatives Segment and Interest Rate Derivatives segment. There will also be no trading at New Debt Segment – Reporting, Settlement and Trading (NDS-RST) and Tri Party Repo and Commodity Derivatives Segment.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX), India's first listed exchange, will also remain closed for trading in the morning session. It will resume trading in the evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm. As for the Commodity Derivative Segment, the morning session will be closed, whereas the evening session will be open.

Before October 26, stock markets remained closed for 2 days -- October 5 (Dussehra) and October 24 (Laxmi Puja/Diwali). On October 2, which is Gandhi Jayanti and also a national holiday, the stock markets remained closed but it was Sunday. 

Stock Markets Holiday in November 2022

The markets will remain closed on November 8 on the occasion of Gurunanak Jayanti.
