The Indian markets closed flat but in the green after witnessing brief volatility during the whole session today, moreover, the same volatility was also seen across the week with four of five sessions ended on a positive note.

On Friday, BSE Sensex marginally gained 148.32 points or 0.28 per cent to 52471.70, while Nifty grew by 33.60 points to 0.21 per cent to 15725 at the close today. Meanwhile, other important indices such as Nifty Bank and Mid-cap ended flat but negative by 0.93 and 0.14 per cent down respectively.

Of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 22 advanced whereas 28 declined at the close today. Adani Ports recovering from the decline became the most-gained stock on the index today by 7.3 per cent, followed by HUL and Bajaj Auto each gaining by around three per cent at market close today. 

While other heavyweights such as Grasim and Bharti Airtel grew by around two per cent in otherwise flat session today. 

On the other hand, ONGC and Coal India topped the list of index laggards, each falling by around four per cent at the close today, followed by other heavyweights, JSW Steel, NTPC and M&M declined between above three per cent at the close today. 

On the weekly basis, Sensex, Nifty, and Midcap index snap a four-week gaining streak, while Nifty Bank slips for a second straight week with the index falling nearly one per cent. Nifty fell by 0.7 per cent, Sensex by 0.2 per cent Midcap index down 3 per cent this week. 

All sectoral indices closed lower for the week, except for FMCG and IT on the weekly basis. As many as 38 Nifty stocks give negative returns, of which Adani Ports, Coal India, JSW Steel, Tata Steel top losers and HUL, HDFC Life, Infosys, Tata Consumer are the index Nifty gainers this week.
