The Indian markets continuing with their winning streak started Thursday’s session with minor gains on the back of strong global cues. The BSE Sensex gained 64.84 points or 0.12 per cent to 52,968.89 levels, while Nifty grew by 18.2 points or 0.11 per cent to 15872.2 levels at open on Thursday.

In the broader markets, the mid-cap index too opened positive following the benchmarks footstep and grew by 82.7 points or 0.30 per cent to 27706 on Tuesday. Similarly, Nifty Bank also gained by near 90 points or a quarter per cent to 35757.4 levels today at the market open.

Of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 34 advanced, and 15 declined and one remained unchanged minutes after the market open today. Kotak Mahindra Bank becomes the most gainer at open today with over 0.5 per cent gain, followed by Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, Reliance, and Maruti each up over 0.4 per cent.

On the contrary, ONGC slumped most at the open today by over 2 per cent, followed by Titan almost 1 per cent. Financial stocks such as HDFC, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserve are also the top laggards, declining by over 0.4 per cent in the early morning trade on Thursday. 

Except for the Nifty Auto, all other sectoral indices are in the green during the early morning trade on Thursday, with Nifty IT surging most and continuing its gaining streak since yesterday. Banking, Financials, Pharma and Realty sector are up quarter per cent minutes after the market open today. 

US markets on Wednesday closed mixed as Dow Jones flirts with all-time highs before closing marginally in the green, while Nasdaq closed in the red on profit booking. While Asian markets opened mixed with profit booking seen in the Japanese 'Nikkei' which traded lower by 200 points.

Another important trigger to the domestic market, Foreign Institutional Investors sold shares worth Rs 1303.95 crore in cash and bought Rs 1335.91 crore in index futures on Wednesday.

The markets on Wednesday had a positive day after a volatile session, IT stocks rebounded in style to closed at a one-month high.
