The stock markets on Wednesday ended positive after spending the majority of the session in a range-bound trade. The benchmark indices BSE Sensex closed nearly 200 points or 0.37 per cent higher to 53,054.76, while Nifty jumped by over 60 points or 0.4 per cent to 15879.65 levels at the close today.

In broader markets, the mid-cap index outperformed the benchmarks and grew by over half a per cent higher (0.66 per cent or 180 points) to 27328.35, while Nifty Bank too grew by almost 200 points or 0.54 per cent to 35771.3 levels today at the market close.

Out of 50 scrips on the Nifty50, 33 advanced, and 17 declined at the close. Steel stocks soar most at the close, with Tata Steel ending almost 5 per cent, as the company reiterates its focus on capacity expansion in India, followed by JSW Steel surging nearly 3 per cent and Hindalco grew by 2 per cent 

On the other hand, Titan was the biggest laggard at the close today as the counter fell by over 2 per cent in an otherwise positive market, followed by ONGC down over 1 per cent, while Maruti Suzuki and SBI Life each slumped by around 1 per cent at close on Wednesday.

Sector-wise, all sectors ended in the green, except for Nifty Auto and Media. The Metal Index soared by over 2 per cent, followed by banking and financial stocks along with FMCH counters.

US Dow futures rose along with stocks in Europe as investors awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve's latest meeting for clues on policy makers' thinking on interest rates and stimulus. 

Asian markets ended negative with Hang Seng declined 0.4 per cent, Japan's Nikkei tumbled 0.96 per cent, and South Korea's Kospi down 0.6 per cent.
