The Indian markets on Monday ended flat with a positive bias on the first day of the week, with Sensex holding the 6000-mark, while Nifty closing below 17900-mark. FMCG, IT and Pharma stocks dragged the market most during Monday’s trade.

The BSE Sensex gained marginally 30 points or 0.05 per cent to end at 60,078 for the first time; while Nifty50 rises 2 points or 0.01 per cent to 17,855. On the contrary, the mid-cap index too ended flat on Monday with marginal gains, up 9 points or 0.03 per cent to 30,152.45 today.

Leading the surge in the Nifty Index, Nifty Bank gained over 340 points or 0.9 per cent to end at record closing high of 38,171.25 levels, led by HDFC Bank at the close today.    

Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 25 advanced, 25 declined at the market close today. Auto stocks gained most in a flat market today, with Maruti surging most of all by near 6.5 per cent, followed by M&M and Tata Motors both up over 4 per cent, While Hero Moto gained almost 3 per cent.  

On the other hand, information and technology stocks dragged the market most, as HCL Tech fell most by over 4 per cent, followed by Tech Mahindra and Divis Lab down over 3 per cent. Even Divis Lab fell by over 3 per cent along with Bajaj Finserv down over 2.5 per cent at the market close today.  

The majority of the sectoral indices ended positive except for IT, FMCG and Pharma index. Nifty Auto surged most by over 3 per cent, followed by banking and financial indices today at the market close. While Nifty IT slumped near 3 per cent, followed by FMCG and Pharma each down near 1 per cent.
