The Indian market ended Monday's session on a positive note with both the benchmark indices gaining around 1 per cent today. The surge in the market today was mainly led by pharma stocks along with banking and financials at the close.

The BSE Sensex jumped 533 points or 0.9 per cent to 59299.32 levels, while Nifty50 soared almost 160 points or 0.9 per cent to 17691.25. In the broader markets, mid-cap index grew 478.5 points or 1.57 per cent to 30875.35 levels.

Leading the surge in Nifty Index, Nifty Bank gained over 350 points or 0.95 per cent to end at 37579.65 levels, led by HDFC Bank at the close today.   

Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 36 advanced, 14 declined at the market close today. Pharma major Divi’s Lap gained most at the market close on Monday, up near 8 per cent, followed by metal stock Hindalco up 4.5 per cent and NTPC also jumped over 4 per cent along with Bajaj Finserv and Tata Motors each up by over 3 and 2.5 per cent respectively at the market close today.

On the other hand, Cipla declined most in the positive market today down by 3 per cent, followed by Grasim down over 2 per cent, UPL declined near 1.5 per cent. Similarly, IOC and Bajaj Auto slumped by near 1 per cent at the market close on Monday.

All sectoral indices ended positive today, with Nifty Metal gained most 3 per cent, followed by Nifty Pharma up 1.5 per cent, while IT, banking and financial stocks also lead the surge in the market at the close on Monday. In the mid ad small-cap indices was mainly powered by Realty and Media stocks, as each indices gained over 2 per cent at the market close on Monday.
