Domestic equity markets were trading in red in the mid-morning trade. After opening at higher levels at 49,656.71, the S&P BSES Sensex touched the low of 49,088.03 and was trading 234.78 points or 0.47% down from the previous close of 49,584.16 at 49,349.38 at 12:41 pm. The Nifty 50 index which opened at 14,594.35 and touched the high of 14,617.45 and gave up the 14,500-mark to touch a low of 14,445.85 was trading 69.75 points or 0.48% down from the previous close of 49,584.16 at14,525.85 at 12:42 pm.

Bharti Airtel, UPL, Tata Motors, Tata Steels and Bajaj Auto were leading stocks at NSE rising 3.65%, 2.44%, 1.33%, 1.01% and 0.93% respectively. Hindalco, Tech Mahindra, BPCL and HCL Technologies were fell 2.03%, 1.87%, 1.83% and -1.65 % down respectively.

Meanwhile, there are certain stocks which were in action in either direction based on reports linked to them. Here is a list of few such stocks:

SAIL (up 6.47%): The steelmaker's offer for sale (OFS) that received a strong response from non-retail investors on the first day of the issue. The bids from retail investors opened on Friday and as per BSE, the retail portion was subscribed 38.72 per cent or 9,995,631 shares out of 25,815,783 offer size.

Telecom Stocks in Focus

Bharti Airtel (up 3.60%), Vodafone Idea (up 8.13%), Indus Towers Ltd (up 2.93%): The stocks of Bharti Airtel is rising a day after MSCI Global Standard Indexes said it will raise the weightage of the telecom operator in the February 2021 quarterly review. Besides, the telecom stocks, like Vodafone Idea and Indus Towers Ltd, were trading with gains in the intra-day trade.

HCL Technologies Limited (down 1.81%): The third-largest IT services company by market capitalisation today posted its the financial results of the quarter ended December 31, 2021, and reported a 26.7 per cent jump in consolidated profit at Rs 3,982 against Rs 3,142 crore posted in the previous quarter. Besides, it has declared an interim dividend of Rs 4 per equity share for FY21. The Record date of January 23, 2021, fixed for the payment of the aforesaid interim dividend and the Payment date of the said interim dividend shall be February 8, 2021.

Pfizer (down 0.58%) + Aurobindo Pharma (down 1.03%): Pfizer has filed a petition in a US court against Aurobindo Pharma Ltd alleging patent infringement of an Arthritis drug by the Indian drugmaker.

Bajaj Healthcare (down 4.55%): Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has asked the company to close its Tarapur unit in 72 hours for not meeting the pollution standards, sources aware of the development informed Zee Business. An investigation conducted in December 2020 revealed several irregularities at the unit. MSEDCL has been asked to shut down the power supply of the plant and MIDC was asked to stop supplying water to the unit.
