The domestic equity markets extended gain for the fifth straight session, fourth consecutive this week, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the broader Nifty50 opened above 18,200, while the Sensex also remained above 61,200. The two indices opened at 18,257 and 61,259.99 respectively.

Powergrid, Infosys, TCS, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Maruti Bajaj Finance, L&T, Reliance Industries, Dr Reddy's and UltraTech cement were top gainers. Wipro, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, IndusInd Bank were among the top losers. 

In the pre-open, the Sensex started with 110 points gain to 61,259.99 as 22 shares advanced and 8 declined on the 30-share index.  

IT shares are expected be in focus on Thursday as IT major TCS, Infosys and Wipro came out with Q3fy22 numbers on Wednesday. The highlight of announcement of Q3fy22 results was that Wipro declared dividend, while TCS announced a buyback and Infosys beat the street's estimates.

Earlier, SGX Nifty hinted at a positive gap up opening for the Indian markets as the futures index at the Singaporean Exchange traded with 110 points or 0.60% gain to 18,326 around 9.10 am on Thursday. 

Earlier on Thursday morning, the Asian markets were largely trading in the negative as Nikkei 225 was down nearly 1 per cent, Shanghai Composite was trading lower by 0.18% and Hang Seng Index traded flat with marginal 0.03% gain around 7.35 am. 

On Wednesday, major Wall Street indices traded in the negative as Dow Jones gained marginally by 0.11 points, Nasdaq Composite closed higher by 0.23%, S&P500 added 0.28%, while Russell 2000 was seen trading under pressure as the index settled 0.82% lower on Wednesday.
