The Life Insurance Corporation of India's holding in companies listed on the National Stock exchange (NSE) has declined to all time low of 3.69 per cent as on September 30, 2021, as per primeinfobase.com, an initiative of PRIME Database Group. The analysis by PRIME Database Group is based on shareholding patterns filed by 1688 of the total 1732 companies listed on NSE (main board) for the quarter ending September 30, 2021.

The national insurer holds over 1 per cent stake in more than 281 companies till September 2021. According to PRIME Database Group, LIC holdings came down to 3.69 per cent in September 2021 from 3.74 per cent as on June 30, 2021. It has clocked highest holdings of 5 per cent in NSE-listed companies on June 30, 2012, said the same data.  
Interestingly, the value of LIC holdings reached an all-time high of Rs 9.39 lakh crore in the quarter ending September 30, 2021. This was an increase of 11.38 per cent over previous quarter.  
In INR value terms too, the holding of domestic Mutual Funds went up by 14.82 per cent to an all-time high of INR 18.75 lakh crores as on September 30, 2021 from INR 16.33 lakh crores on June 30, 2021. Not just that, with 77 per cent share, LIC also holds lion's share in terms of investment in equities.  

Top 10 companies in which LIC had the maximum holding are IDBI Bank, LIC Housing Finance, ITC Ltd, Hindustan Copper Ltd, NMDC Ltd, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, MTNL, L&T Ltd, Oil India Ltd and Castrol India Ltd.


  
Reliance Industries Ltd, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, ITC Ltd, Infosys Ltd, State Bank of India, L&T Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd, IDBI Bank Ltd, Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Kotak Mahindra Ltd were the top 10 companies, in value terms, in which the national insurer holds maximum holding as on quarter ending September 30, 2021.  

 

Companies which saw the highest increase in LIC’s holdings in percentage terms in the last one quarter were LIC Housing Finance Ltd, HUDCO Ltd, Hindustan Copper Ltd, Bank of India, Dixon technologies (India), Hindustan Motors Ltd, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, Torrent Power Ltd, Cadila Healthcare Ltd and Lux Industries.  


Power Grid of India Ltd, Power Finance Corp Ltd, National Aluminium Co Ltd, Bata India Ltd, Zuari Global Ltd, Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd, Piramal Enterprises Ltd, Marico Ltd and Godrej Industries Ltd were the companies in which LIC cut down its stake maximu in the quarter ended September 30, 2021.  

Meanwhile, holding of Insurance companies as a whole declined to a 6-year low of 4.81 per cent as on September 30, 2021 down from 4.89 per cent as on June 30, 2021. Though, In INR value terms, it went up by 11.23 per cent from the previous quarter to an all-time high of INR 12.26 lakh crores as on September 30, 2021.
