As per this section, premium that you pay for buying a health plan up to Rs 25,000 is exempted as income tax under Section 80D, Singhvi said. It could be your mediclaim, or your spouse's.

If you have parents, then a further RS 25,000 is exempted and if they are old i.e. above the age of 60 years, then Rs 50,000 additional amount is exempted.  

So, it is very important to buy a health insurance plans so that the expenses of the treatment are taken care of. But don’t forget to take exemptions given by the government.
