The FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) major — Hindustan Unilever’s (HUL) standalone net profit grew by 10 per cent to Rs 2,061 crore in the June-ended quarter of the financial year 2021-2022, on the back of steady volume growth, which was slightly impacted by the second wave of coronavirus.

In the same period a year ago, the company posted Rs 1881 crore standalone net profit, while on a sequential basis, the profit declined by 3.8 per cent from Rs 2143 crore in the fourth quarter of FY21.

The Nifty FMCG heavyweight’s standalone revenue from operations rose almost 13 per cent to Rs 11,915 crore in Q1 FY22, as compared to Rs 10560 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. However, the profit fell by around 2 per cent a quarter-on-quarter basis from Rs 12,132 crore in Q4 of FY21.

While the company’s EBITDA for the quarter stood at Rs 2847 crore, grew by 8 per cent and EBITDA margin slumped by 110 basis points, the company said in results filing to exchanges.

Terming it as robust broad-based performance in a difficult environment, the FMCG Major in its filing to BSE said, “In a challenging context of COVID Wave 2HUL delivered a strong performance with Domestic Consumer Growth of 12 per cent, Underlying Volume Growth of 9 per cent and profit after tax growth of 10 per cent.”

The company in its filing further said, “Performance was broad-based with all 3 divisions growing competitively and in double-digits. Our business fundamentals remain strong with a large part of our business gaining penetration.”

Segment-wise, the home care revenue segment grew by 12 per cent to Rs 3797 crore year-on-year basis, beauty, and personal care revenue segment jumped over 13 per cent to Rs 4573 crore YoY, while food and refreshment revenue segment surged over 12 per cent to Rs 3319 crore YoY.

Immediate after Q1 results, the stock surged to a day’s level of Rs 2506.5 per share on the BSE intraday trade today, as compared to 0.95 per cent rise in the BSE Sensex. The scrip at around 02:45 was trading near 2 per cent down to Rs 2388.5 per share on the BSE.
