Stock market today:  The headline indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty, opened flat on Tuesday, August 22, but edged higher soon after. Heavy buying was seen in real estate and metal stocks.

Last seen, both indices were up 0.11 per cent. The S&P BSE Sensex was up 71.69 points at 65,287.78 and the NSE Nifty was up 19.6 points at 19,413.2.

In the broader market, the Nifty Mid Cap 100 and Small Cap 100 were up nearly half a per cent. 

Nifty Bank, along with all the other indices on the sectoral front, traded in the green. At the time of filing this report, Nifty Bank was up 0.16 per cent at 44,074.55.

BUZZING STOCKS 

Tata Communications shares were up over 2 per cent after the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) ordered the Centre not to take coercive steps against it in relation to a licence fee demand of Rs 991.5 crore.

Jet Airways shares were up 2 per cent after the committee of creditors of Jet Airways gave the thumbs up to an extension to the payment deadline to the Jalan Kalrock Consortium until September 30.

Lemon Tree Hotel shares were up over 2 per cent after the company signed a licence agreement for two properties in Bhubaneswar and Kasauli. 

Dish TV stock was up over 2 per cent after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's proposal to zero the licence fee charged from DTH licences in the next three years. 

Globus Spirits was up over 1 per cent after Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund and Nifty Microcap 250 Index Fund bought a stake in the company. 

IDFC First Bank shares were up over 2 per cent after its board approved the appointment of Neerav Maniar as the Chief Compliance Officer of the bank, forming part of the senior management of the bank.

Indo Amines shares jumped over 11 per cent after the Gujarat Pollution Control Board took back the order to close the plant at Tundav, Vadodara. 

Conversely, Jio Financial Services stock hovered near its lower circuit of 5 per cent a day after listing. 

Aurobindo Pharma was down over 1 per cent as the company recalled different products in the US market due to manufacturing lapses. 

GLOBAL MARKETS 

Asian stocks followed Wall Street higher on Tuesday as traders waited for signs of interest rate plans from this week's Federal Reserve conference.

Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul rose.

Wall Street's benchmark S and P 500 index rose on Monday for its first gain in five days as tech stocks rallied.
