Stock market today: The domestic equity market closed flat on Thursday, September 14, after recording new highs during the opening. Selling pressure was seen in FMCG, consumer durables, and media stocks. UPL, a stock that did not participate in the Nifty's rally to its historic peak, closed nearly 4 per cent higher.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended 52.01 points, or 0.08 per cent higher at 67,519, while the NSE Nifty ended at 20,103.1, up 33.10 points, or 0.16 per cent. 

Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 28 advanced and 21 declined.

In the broader market, the Nifty Mid Cap 100 and Small Cap 100 settled over 1 per cent higher.

The Nifty Bank also closed in positive territory, up 0.20 points at 46,000.85.

NIFTY 50 STOCKS 

UPL, Hindalco, ONGC, M&M, and Divi's Laboratories were the top gainers on the NSE. Asian Paints, HDFC Life, Coal India, Britannia, and LTIMindtree were the major laggards. 

BUZZING STOCKS

Bombay Dyeing stock hit the upper circuit but pared gains later and eventually settled over 9 per cent higher after the company approved a proposal to sell the land parcel of about 22 acres in Worli, Mumbai. 

JK Tyre shares settled over 2 per cent higher after CARE Ratings Ltd. upgraded its long-term issuer rating to CARE A+ from 'CARE A'.

NBCC (India) shares ended nearly 8 per cent higher and SAIL shares closed over 2 per cent higher after NBCC bagged a Rs 180 crore order from the latter.

Fusion Micro Finance closed over 3 per cent higher after Investec initiated a buy.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Shares were mostly higher in Asia on Thursday after a highly anticipated report showed inflation accelerated across the US in August, but not by much more than expected.

The subdued increase in US prices eased worries over the likelihood of another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, leading Tokyo's Nikkei 225 to surge 1.4 per cent to 33,168.10. In Seoul, the Kospi jumped 1.1 per cent, to 2,561.45.
