According to Hindu traditions, Muhurat is an auspicious time when all the planets and stars are aligned in a way to bring good luck and fortune to market investors. The hour of Muhurat trading on Diwali is considered favourable for investing by the trading community. This year, it will mark the beginning of Samvat 2079. Usually, trader communities in India will open new accounts and close the balance sheet of the previous on this day.

While the BSE started the tradition of Muhurat Trading in 1957, the NSE started this in 1992 on Diwali. Now, this has become symbolic for individual traders to trade during this one-hour special trading session.
