The Indian markets ended the winning streak to close in the red on a day which saw all major indices opening to record highs or creating new highs. Nifty50 closed at 18,418.75 , down -58.30 or 0.32% after touching day's high of 18,604.45, while S&P BSE Sensex ended Tuesday at 61,716.05, down 49.54 points after breaching 62,000-mark.

Nifty Bank also lost early gains to close at 39,540.50, down 144.80 points after the day saw Nifty Bank topping 40,000 for the first-time ever.

Tech Mahindra and L&T were top gainers on both Nifty50 and Sensex. Both shares gained between 3 to 5 per cent.  Other gainers on Nifty were Infosys, Bajaj FinServ and Kotak Bank. ITC, Tata Motors, Eicher Motor dragged the Nifty50 he most.  On the 30-share Sensex, 14 shares advanced and 16 declined

Infosys, HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank and Reliance were other stocks that gained maximum.   

In the broader markets, Nifty midcap index closed 200 points down at 8,878.40.  Nifty Financial Services posed some resistance as the index managed to close in the green. The index closed at 19,068.45, up 34.15 or 0.18%.  

S&P BSE MidCap took the major beating as the index closed down over 500 points.  The index ended Monday on 26,418.28 points, a decline of 533.85 points or 1.98 per cent.
