Carrying forward the winning streak, the Indian markets ended the fourth consecutive session on a higher note amid positive global cues on Wednesday.

The broader Nifty50 managed to close above 18, 200, while the S&P BSE Sensex surged over 500 points to end past 61,100. The former closed at 18,212.35, while the latter settled for 61,150.04 as the indices ended 0.87% and 0.88% higher on Wednesday.

Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, ONGC, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, NTPC and Kotak Bank were among top gainers on the two indices. Among those which dragged the market the most were TCS, Wipro, Titan, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, Nestle India, Shree Cement, Britannia and Cipla.  

Among the broader markets, all indices traded in the green during the closing. IT space which will see frontline IT companies, including TCS, Wipro and Infosys, coming up with Q3FY22 result on Wednesday were seen under pressure. Besides, Pharma, healthcare and consumer durables also ended lower to flat on Wednesday.  

The 12-share Bank Nifty too ended nearly 1 per cent higher on Wednesday.
