Bird flu is raising its head in India with certain sates now getting affected. Cases of chickens dying of bird flu is coming more prominently from states of Maharashtra and Bihar with the latter taking the lead. The impact of this is likely to be on certain companies. Zee Business’ Varun Dubey brings this report to tell which ones to get impacted the most.

As per the previous numbers, 700-800 cases of death were reported which have now gone many folds up to 8,000-10,000, Dubey said.

In Maharashtra, news of bird flu cases is coming from Mumbai’s Thane because of which chickens have been killed.

As a matter of practice, eggs and chicken are destroyed within a 1 km radius of the bird flu affected area.

Any further impact will be seen down the line.

While Bird flu is now a usual problem in India, the impact of which remains throughout winter till February.

However, the issue has increased significantly now and more chickens are being killed now.

The impact will now be felt across the poultry sector be it organized or unorganized sector.

Stock that could be impacted from this development include Venky’s (India) Limited, SKM Eggs Products Export India Limited and Godrej Agrovet Limited.

However, Hester Biosciences Limited will be a beneficiary as the company is into the business of preventive and curative  medication. It manufactures vaccines for these chickens. While, vaccination is done from time-to-time, the demand increases at the time of bird flu.

Venky’s and SKM shares today ended at Rs 2108 and Rs 68.20 respectively on the NSE, each down over 2 per cent from the last closing price of Thursday.      

Godrej Agrovet shares today ended at Rs 489.50, up 0.1 per cent on the NSE.
