The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations on Tuesday released the August sales number and said both the tractors and passenger vehicles continue to see robust demand in the last month.

Automobile dealers' body reported around 14.5 per cent jump in total retail sales to 13,84,711 units in August as against 12,09,550 units in the same month last year. In this regard, the retail sales of passenger vehicles (PV) in August grew by 39 per cent year-on-year to 2,53,363 units.

The association reported, the two-wheeler sales rose 7 per cent to 9,76,051 units in the last month as compared to 9,15,126 units in the year-ago period. While commercial vehicle sales surged 98 per cent to 53,150 units in August 2021 as against 26,851 units in August 2020.

Three-wheeler sales saw an exponential rise of 80 per cent to 30,410 units in the last month from 16,923 units in the same month year ago. While Tractor overall sales in the month of August 2021 grew by 5.5 per cent to 71737 units versus 67999 units in August 2020.

FADA in its report warns of a lacklustre festive season specially for PV dealers as inventory level continues to dip due to non-availability of the fast-moving variants.

The association first raised demand supply mismatch in January 2021 on the back of shortage of semi-conductors in few brands. However, this has now become a full-blown crisis with no light in sight, adds the dealers’ body on Tuesday in a report.
