The Stock, bond and commodity markets around the world have been rattled after Russia declared war on Ukraine sending stocks tumbling and crude oil prices surging. And in the international market, Brent crude futures breached one hundred dollars a barrel for the first time since 2014.

The Indian stock market on Thursday, February 24, 2021, saw the biggest fall in two years. Benchmark indices declined for the seventh consecutive trading session as tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, tumbled 2,702.15 points or 4.72% at 54,529.921. The Nifty 50 index slumped 815.30 points or 4.78% at 16,247.95. The Bank Nifty index declined 2,163.95 points or 5.79% to end at 35,228.10.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index cracked 5.53% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index dropped 5.77%.
