"The achievement comes against the backdrop of the India growth story, highlighting the MF industry's ability to win investor trust by providing low cost, long term-oriented wealth creation avenues," AMFI said in a press release.

The Rs 50 lakh crore milestone is a testament to the trust that investors place in the Indian mutual fund industry, said Navneet Munot, Chairman, AMFI. "On this momentous achievement, we would like to thank and congratulate the regulator, SEBI, all our distributors and investment advisers, all MF industry stakeholders, our member AMCs and above all, the mutual fund investors. The mutual fund Industry is geared up for the next growth milestone of Rs 100 lakh crores AUM and 10 crore investors, which we are sure will be achieved sooner than expected,” he added.

Equity mutual fund inflows came in at Rs 16,997 crore for the month—the 34th month of net inflows in a row, an increase of 9.4 per cent sequentially, with record inflows in the systematic investment plan (SIP) category, according to AMFI. The equity inflows were driven by a sustained preference for smallcap funds.

Monthly SIP inflows topped the Rs 17,000 crore mark for a second straight month, the data showed.

SIP inflows for December 2023 stood at a record Rs 17,610 crore, an eighth month when the monthly figure exceeded Rs 14,000 crore, and fifteenth above Rs 13,000 crore.
