  • EXPERT VIEW: Gaurang Somaiya, Forex & Bullion Analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial Services

The rupee traded in a narrow range after the release of India's inflation and IIP numbers. Inflation grew at 4.3 per cent in May as compared to 4.7 per cent in the previous month. On the other hand, industrial production data showed industrial activity grew by 4.2 per cent in April, compared to a growth of 1.7 per cent in the previous month. The focus now shifts to the all-important FOMC policy statement that is scheduled to be released tomorrow. The projection of inflation and growth will also be important, and that could trigger volatility for the dollar. Today, the focus will be on the US inflation number, and this will be important ahead of the Fed policy statement. We expect the USDINR (spot) to trade sideways and quote in the range of 82.20 and 82.80.
