Last few months have been great when it comes to jobs. Several companies were forced to let go off employees because of the coronavirus pandemic while others decided to opt for salary cut. But things are expected to change with the upcoming festive season set to bring new opportunities. The e-commerce sector is expecting a wave of orders from customers and is planning to beef up for the same.

The major opportunities will come from giants like Flipkart and Amazon – both set to hire 70,000 people each. Both these platforms are known to host big sales during the festive season.

Flipkart has announced that it will help generate over 70,000 direct and lakhs of indirect seasonal jobs. While creating direct job opportunities across Flipkart's supply chain, that include delivery executives, pickers, packers and sorters, there will also be additional indirect jobs created at Flipkart's seller partner locations and kiranas.

"Flipkart understands the importance of festivities in the lives of our consumers and ecosystem partners. We are focused on creating impactful partnerships that offer great consumer experience while creating additional opportunities for progress of the entire ecosystem as it scales for the Big Billion Days (BBD). By generating employment and enabling our sellers to scale their businesses during this time, we're doing our part to drive growth in the industry and the economy,” Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice-President, Ekart and Marketplace, Flipkart, said.

Meanwhile, Amazon had announced 70,000 opportunities in May and says more jobs will be coming soon.

“Amazon India continues to remain committed to customers getting all they need safely across the country, as we serve customers every day. In May this year, we announced over 70,000 seasonal opportunities across our fulfilment and delivery network and for roles in our customer service teams. We will continue to create thousands of additional opportunities across the network to support customer demand across the country this upcoming festive season, so customers can stay and stay safe,” the company said.

While home grown Snapdeal didn’t give any numbers, it said that efforts are being made to expand the delivery fleet.

“We are working in close co-ordination with our third-party logistics partners to prepare for the surge in festive orders. Our partners are in the process of augmenting their delivery capability through additional hiring and expansion of their delivery fleet to ensure time-bound pick-up and delivery of our shipments,” a Snapdeal spokesperson told Zee Business Online.
