If you are a frequent train traveller, then this announcement by Indian Railways will be of interest to you. This development is on passenger trains which are now gradually coming into operations after being suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Indian Railways have increased the fare of tickets. The passengers will now be paying the fare of express trains for these passenger trains which are now running as special trains. They may now have to pay three times more price for the same travel they make.

The facilities in the passenger trains will remain same. 

Indian Railways has said that this has been done in view of the pandemic so that people are discouraged to do train journeys.

Many travellers are expecting the Indian Railways to take back this decision. 

At present, around 12,000 passenger trains are being run in the country. Almost 2.5 cr people travel through the passenger trains. 

During the time of Coronavirus pandemic, only special trains were being run. More and more mails, express trains and passengers are being run.  

On Wednesday, 35 passenger trains resumed operations. 

One of the passengers told Zee Business reporter Sameer Dixit that, majority of people who are travelling through passenger trains are local commuters. It will help then if they are issued passes.
