Attari Railway Station or Attari Sham Singh Railway Station, which is located on the India-Pakistan border, is strictly prohibited to visit without a visa and passport. It serves Attari and Wagah Border with Pakistan.

Teasing the users, an official Twitter handle of Amrit Mahotsav operated by the government, said, “Uniqueness is not strange to our country. But what if we told you there exists a railway station in the country where even Indian citizens need a visa to enter!?”

In a tweet chain, the Amrit Mahotsav handle further read, “Yes, the Attari Shyam Singh Railway Station in Amritsar is one place where no Indian citizen is permitted without a valid visa.”

Attari railway station comes under the jurisdiction of Firozpur Division, Northern Railway of Indian Railway. A Pakistani visa is a must to enter the Attari railway station, and if a citizen failed to have one before entering this station, then he/she can be arrested and put behind the bars.

Why passport and visa necessary?

It should be noted that the Samjhauta Express was flagged off from Attari railway station, which was being run between India and Pakistan. The service of the same is currently closed.

Attari railway station is a situated at very sensitive location mainly because it is an immediate border area with Pakistan. It is also one of the entry and exit points for India and Pakistan and hence a valid visa and passport are mandatory to visit this station.

Moreover, the security of this railway station is in the hands of the armed forces and every passenger at this railway station is thoroughly checked at several levels.
