According to the Ministry of Railways, ahead of the upcoming summer season and severe heatwaves, they committed to providing potable drinking water to passengers.

These proactive steps aim to guarantee easy access to clean drinking water throughout the summer months, here is the list of all measures:

  • Zonal Railways will ensure all existing water coolers are functional and meet passenger demand.
  • Water tankers will be deployed at critical stations to supplement existing supplies.
  • Regular checks will be conducted at stations to confirm water availability across all platforms.
  • Indian Railways will actively seek support from Mahila Samitis (women's self-help groups), NGOs, scouts and guides, and other Self HelpGroups for the distribution of cool drinking water, particularly near general class coaches.
  • In areas facing water scarcity, railway authorities will collaborate with Municipal Corporations/State Governments and explore alternative water supply solutions.
  • A system for round-the-clock monitoring by railway staff will be implemented to ensure consistent water availability and address any emerging issues promptly.
