Indian Railways ticket booking online: When you book a Railway ticket through IRCTC webiste, there are certain charges you pay.The customers are required to pay the cost of the ticket and the service charge.

Charges: A customer has to pay the cost of the ticket and the service charge (including Service Tax) while booking a Railway ticket.

For Indian Railways I-Ticket service, a customer is charged Rs. 80 per ticket plus service tax for Sleeper Class/Second class and for higher class tickets, the passengers have to shell out Rs 120 per ticket plus service tax.

For the Indian Railways E-Ticket, IRCTC charges Rs.20 plus service tax for second/sleeper class and for higher class E-tickets it charges Rs.40 plus service tax. Besides that banks also take transaction charges.

If a customer books Railway ticket through mobile phones, the operators also impose a charge. The customers can confirm from their mobile operators about charges before booking tickets through handsets.

After you book the tickets, certain details appear on screen. These include berth/seat number, RAC/Waitlist position at the time of booking, PNR No and a unique Transaction ID. Transaction ID and all other details must be preserved for reference in the future.
