Indian Railways on time status: Howrah worst, but rest not much better

Indian Railways on time status: Punctuality is one of Railways biggest problem. It is also a perpetual one. Indian Railways` overall punctuality rate is about 65 per cent and Howrah Division in Bengal is the worst performer, according to an IANS report. This division has clocked a punctuality  performance of 34 per cent for the week ended June 3:

1. Howrah Division in Bengal followed by Lucknow Division in the worst performers list in terms of trains running late for the week ended June 3.

2. The punctuality performance of Howrah Division in Bengal and Lucknow Division  were 34 percent and 39 percent, respectively.

3. Above 80 per cent punctuality rate is considered "reasonable" for Indian Railways.

4. Indian Railways overall punctuality rate is about 65 per cent.

5. Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani has said he was not satisfied with the punctuality rate of 65 percent.

6. According to Indian Railways data South East Central division's punctuality performance was at 44 percent followed by North Central`s 47.5 per cent.

7. Bhavnagar has fared well with 99.27 percent punctuality rate while Sealdah Division has clocked 98.19 percent in the week from May 28 to June 3 this year.

8. Delhi Division`s performance is below the 65 percent mark at 64.64 percent, while Mumbai Division is even worse at 55.5 percent for the same period.

9. Though the Indian Railways is making effort to improve punctuality, Mail/Express trains are sometimes running more than five to 10 hours behind schedule.
