The package announced by the Prime Minister at 8 pm on Tuesday was almost 10 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India, Modi said in over a half-an-hour-long address to the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation amid Covid 19 pandemic enforced lockdown. The address by PM  took place a day after he interacted with chief ministers on ways to deal with the spread of coronavirus and also boost economic activity. Giving a major booster dose to India's economy amid coronavirus crisis, PM Narendra Modi announced Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, a massive special relief package.

Making the big announcement, Modi said, "I announce a special economic package today. This will play an important role in the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan'. The announcements made by the govt over COVID decisions of RBI and today's package totals to Rs 20 Lakh Crores. This is 10% of India's GDP."
