World Cup 2019 prize money: Sunday turned out to be the perfect evening for sports lovers with both ICC ODI World Cup final and Wimbledon Men's single final going till the very end, producing nail-biting finishes. While hosts England emerged victorious in the super over by defeating New Zealand's feisty Black Caps, Novak Djokovic held his nerves to beat crowd favourite and all-time great Roger Federer in what was the longest Wimbledon final ever. Both the tournaments come with lucrative prize money, but even though cricket is considered to be a rich sport, the prize is almost similar to what Novak Djokovic got for Wimbledon.

The total prize money for the Cricket World Cup was $10 million (Rs 69.6 crore) - to be divided between all members. The winner on Sunday received $4 million and the runners-up earned $2 million, the highest ever purse for a cricket world cup. The losing semi-finalists got $800,000 each at the end of the 46-day tournament played across 11 venues. Even this amount was to be divided among the team members.

However, significantly, where Djokovic put one over cricket was that the money won by the Wimbledon winner went to just one person - him alone! This year's Wimbledon had a total prize money of $49 million dollars or Rs 341 crore, nearly five times that of the ICC World Cup. The winner of the men’s or women’s singles took home a cool $3.14 million.

Even this amount is less when we compare it what the FIFA World Cup 2018 winner France had got. In that tournament, the total prize money was a whopping $ 400 million or Rs 2,786 crore. The FIFA world cup final alone was worth more than six times the ICC World Cup, as the winners were paid $38m while the runners-up got $28m.

Apart from these two clashes, Sunday also witnessed a Formula 1 race at the Silverstone circuit, also in London where Lewis Hamilton won the race.
