The crude steel output for the 66 countries rose up 2.0% to 132.9 million tonnes (MT) in September this year, said the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) in a press release on Thursday.

The crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the association was 130.3 million tonnes (MT) in September 2015, it said. 

The estimated crude steel output of India during the month grew up by 8.5% to 7.9 MT as compared to 7.3 MT in the corresponding month of last fiscal. 

China recorded nearly 4% growth in world crude steel production during the month. The country's crude steel output during September this year surged up by 3.9% to 68.2 MT as against 65.6 MT in September 2015, Worldsteel said in a press release

Elsewhere in Asia, Japan recorded a decline in crude steel output at minus 1.5% to 8.4 MT in September 2016 as compared to 8.6 MT in September 2015. 

South Korea registered a growth of 1.1% in crude steel production to 5.7 MT during the period as against 5.6 MT in the corresponding period of last fiscal. 

Moreover, in the European Union (EU), Germany witnessed a decline of 3.9% in the crude steel output to 3.2 MT in September this year as against 3.4 MT in the same period of last year.

Similarly, Italy's crude steel output during the month declined by 5.3% to nearly 1.9 MT as against 2.1 MT in the corresponding month of last year.  

France's crude steel production during September this year rose up by 2.2% to 1.3 MT as compared to 1.25 MT in September 2015. 

Turkey’s crude steel production for September 2016 was up 8.1% to 2.7 MT as against 2.5 MT in September 2015, Worldsteel said in a release. 

According to the Worldsteel data, in September 2016, Russia's crude steel production declined by 2.1% to 5.7 MT as against 5.9 MT in September last year. 

Likewise, Ukraine during the period saw a decline of 8.0% in world crude steel output to 1.9 MT as compared to 2.0 MT in the similar period of last year. 

The Worldsteel data findings showed that the world crude steel output of the United States(US) in September decreased by 3.8% to 6.3 MT as against 6.6 MT in September 2015. 

Brazil's crude steel production during the month rose up by 3.1% to 2.6 MT as against 2.5 MT in the corresponding month of previous year, cited the findings.

Worldsteel said that the crude steel capacity utilisation ratio of the 66 countries during September this year was 1.5% higher to 70% as compared to 69.5% in September last year. 

World Steel Association (Worldsteel) is one of the largest steel associations in the world and its members represents approximately 85% of the world steel production.
