While Aditya Dhar's Uri starring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam is based on the surgical strike conducted by India in 2016, The Accidental Prime Minister starring Anupam Kher in the lead role, is the biopic of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. With Simmba still going strong, neither of these films were expected to set the box-office on fire but should deliver decent returns.

Both the films got a decent opening on Friday and are likely to pick up over the weekend. The Accidental Prime Minister released to about 15 per cent opening in early shows while Uri opened to 20 per cent occupancy rates. "#EarlyTrends for early shows all across, #Uri has taken around 30% start & #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister is around 15% start. Both are expected to pick up through the day & over the weekend !!!" trade analyst Girish Johar tweeted.

The Accidental Prime Minister has released on as many as 1300 screens in India and 140 screens overseas. The film will also be released in Tamil and Telugu on Januray 18, 2019. However, the release date of the English version of the film has not be announced yet. The film has released to mixed reviews.

Meanwhile, Uri is being appreciated by both critics as well as audience, alike.

"#OneWordReview… #UriTheSurgicalStrike: IMPACTFUL. Rating: ½ #Uri is one film that *should* be watched… Absorbing screenplay, superbly executed combat scenes, efficient direction [Aditya Dhar]… #Uri is thrilling, gripping, instills patriotism, without getting jingoistic," Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

In another tweet, Adarsh praised Vicky Kaushal for delivering a strong performance.

"#Sanju, #Raazi and now #UriTheSurgicalStrike... Vicky Kaushal delivers a fantastic performance yet again... #Uri has several actors who add strength to their respective parts: Paresh Rawal [excellent], Mohit Raina [first-rate], Yami Gautam [good] and Kirti Kulhari [effective]," he tweeted.
