UPSC civil services 2019 application date: Those who are preparing for the civil services examination, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had extended the date for submission of online registration - application for the civil services examination (CSE). The application process was earlier scheduled to end on March 18, i.e today, but it has now been extended for a day, till March 19 at 6 pm. Candidates can now submit their application on the UPSC's official websites - upsc.gov.in or upsconline.nic.in-- by 6 pm on the said date.

According to the UPSC notification, the civil services examination is scheduled to take place on June 2 for asmany as 896 posts, including the positions reserved for PWD candidates. After the newly introduced economically weaker section (EWS) quota, those general category candidates whose family income is less than Rs 8 lakh will also be able to avail the benefit of reservation. 

However, candidates belonging to this category will have to submit an EWS certificate by August 1.

Interested candidates should follow the steps given below to apply for the UPSC civil services 2019 examination: 

1. Candidates should first visit official website- upsconline.nic.in
2. They should click on the link -various application form, and ‘click here for part I registration’
3. Candidates must read instructions, and click ‘yes’ to fill form
4. Candidates must make payment of the requite amount 
5. Now select centre, upload images and finally agree to the declaration

Notably, candidates also need to fill the form II, without which the application process will not be considered complete.

This year number of posts advertised this year for civil services is 896, and this also includes the reserved seats for PWD candidates. The numbers in comparison to the last year is a bit high, but looking at data of previous years one can see decline in numbers. In 2018, the notification for 782 vacant position was issued by the Union Public Service Commission, and this was the lowest in past six years.

This year on February 20, UPSC notification came for 896 posts, while the government is reportedly facing shortage of as many as 1,496 IAS officers in the country. This was stated by Union Minister Jitendra Singh in the Rajya Sabha in 2018.
