While reacting to the poor performance of the party in the UP Zila Panchayat elections, a BJP spokesperson stated that they would engage in introspecting the unexpected performance of the party in the elections. Again, a senior party functionary pointed out that this outcome is because of a number of rebel candidates as well as the anger prevailing among the cadres of the party. He was quoted saying in news agency IANS, "Cadres have been complaining about for long that their grievances are not being addressed in the districts where officials call the shots. This is a warning signal for us, and we need to set things right before the Assembly polls next year."

Some of the local ministers were also blamed by this functionary who wished to maintain his anonymity because of the party's dismal performance in Varanasi. He pointed out that there was a lack of connection between the workers and party leaders which may be held responsible for the party's poor performance.
