Aadhaar card for child: The first month of 2020 is about to end and it is a time when the admission process in schools begins.  Parents start moving from pillar to post so that they can get their ward admitted in the school of their choice. During the process, the Aadhaar card remains to be one of the most important documents. This is the reason why UIDAI is receiving huge number of Aadhaar Card applications for children.

Aadhaar Card can be issued for a child below 5 years, the documents required are — birth certificate of the child, Aadhaar card of either of the parents while to make Aadhaar card of child above 5 years of age the documents required are — school letterhead and school ID card, letter by the councilor of one's address or the administrative head of the village (Gram Pradhan) in which the applicant resides.

So, one should ensure that he or she has collected the above documents before applying for the Aadhaar card of child. In the case of the child below 5 years of age, no biometrics of the child is taken but after attaining the 5 years, the biometric of the child has to be submitted. In case the child is above 5 years, his or her biometric will be taken but after 15 years of the child, its biometric has to be updated.

How to apply

To apply for Aadhaar card for child or minor child, one can either go to the nearest post office or at the Aadhaar Kendra. Here is the step by step guide on how to make Aadhaar Card of child:

1] Visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre to apply for the Aadhaar card for child;
2] Fill the Aadhaar Enrolment Form;
3] Mention your Aadhaar card number and details in case you do not have a valid address proof of your child;
4] Submit the form along with relevant documents to the executive;
5] The executive takes your child’s biometrics (10 fingerprints, iris scan and photograph);
6] Once the process is completed, an acknowledgment slip is generated;
7] The acknowledgment slip contains the enrolment ID that contains the enrolment number and time and date of the enrolment;
8] The enrolment ID can be used to check the status of Aadhaar; and
9] The Aadhaar card is sent to the applicant’s address within 90 days of enrolment.
