Stock markets today opened in green. Both BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 opened marginally up from the Wednesday levels. While the Sensex was trading at 31676.91, up by over 71 points, the broader market Nifty 50 opened at 9349.65, up 34 point from the Wednesday close.

The top gainers on the 30-share BSE Sensex on Thursday at the time opening were Indusind Bank, HDFC Bank, Power Grid, Ultratech Cement Company and Kotak Mahindra Bank while top losers were TCS, Mahindra & Mahindra and Nestle India. In the 30-share BSE Sensex, 27 were in trading in green at the time of opening while the remaining 3 were in the red.

Meanwhile, HDFC Bank, BPCL, UPL, Larsen & Toubro and Tata Steel were the top gainers on Nifty Fifty on Thursday in the opening trade. The top losers were Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra, TCS, Bharti Infratel and Coal India.

The stock markets ended up by over 3 per cent on Wednesday. While the Sensex closed at 31605.22, the Nifty 50 ended at 9314.95.

Today, the rupee was trading at 76.0400 against the USD at 9:30 am.

Asian shares and U.S. stock futures rose on Thursday as growing optimism about economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic trumped immediate concerns about a standoff between the United States and China over Hong Kong. MSCI`s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.5 per cent. Australian shares rose 1.86 per cent to the highest in more than two months, while Japan`s Nikkei stock index rose 1.28 per cent to the highest since early March as investors cheered the re-opening of economic activity in both countries.

U.S. stock futures, S&P 500 e-minis , rose 0.36 per cent on Thursday in Asia following another positive session on Wall Street overnight, highlighting the positive mood.
