The stock markets on Tuesday ended the day almost flat from the Monday close. While the BSE Sensex closed at 34,915.80, down by just over 45 points, the broader market NSE Nifty 50 ended the day at 10,302.10, down by 10 points from the previous close.

In the 30 share BSE Sensex, only 13 stocks were trading in the green at the close while the remaining 17 were trading in the red. The top gainers on Tuesday at the time of closing were Nestle India, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, Ultratech Cement Company and Tata Steel. The top losers were Power Grid, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, ONGC and Bajaj Finance.

Meanwhile, Shree Cement, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, Nestle India and Britannia were the top gainers on Nifty Fifty on Tuesday in the closing trade. The top losers in the day’s trade were BPCL, Power Grid, Sun Pharma, GAIL and IOC.

Among major indices, Nifty Auto ended at 6,719.15, almost up by over 1.10 per cent. Nifty Bank also traded flat today ending the day at 21,370.15, up by just over 11 points. Meanwhile, Nifty IT was also flat at the end of the day’s trade at 14,754.30.

On Monday, the Sensex ended at 34,961.52, up by over 0.6 per cent while the Nifty 50 closed at 10,312.40, also up by 0.6 per cent. The Indian stock markets traded with a positive sentiment last week. Among the top performers, technology stocks gained sharply which helped the index settle at 10,300-mark on a weekly basis while the banking stocks traded with weaker sentiments in the last week.

Today, the rupee was trading at around 75.7775 against the USD at 3:50 pm.

Today, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan and Seoul were trading with significant gains, PTI reported. Further, on Wall Street, benchmarks rallied in overnight session after a much healthier-than-expected report on the housing market. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 0.53 per cent to USD 41.63 per barrel.
