Stock Market Holidays: To celebrate Maharashtra Day on 1st May 2020, the share markets will remain closed in India today. According to the official website of the Bombay stock Exchange (BSE) — bseindia.com — trading at Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment and SLB Segment will remain suspended on 1st May 2020. Trading at Currency Derivatives Segment and Interest Rate Derivatives segment will also remain suspended today. Apart from that, trading in Commodities will also remain closed means both MCX and NCDEX will remain closed today.

After Maharashtra Day, there are two more stock market holidays in May 2020 — 7th May 2020 to celebrate Buddha Pournima and 25th May 2020 to celebrate Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id). As today is Friday and Saturday and Sunday are normal closing days, there will be a three-day trading holiday.

Yesterday, BSE Sensex had another powerful day of trading, shooting up by 997 points. It closed at 33,717 points. The 50-stock NSE Nifty index jumped 306 points and closed at 9,859 level. Bank Nifty soared 444 points and closed at 21,534 levels. Shares of metal, auto, IT and tech sector were among the major gainers in the intraday trade session. Reason behind this robust performance were reports on Gilead Coronavirus treatment trials in the US. 

The Maharashtra Day is celebrated every year in Maharashtra to commemorate the formation of the state of Maharashtra after division from Bombay State on 1st May 1960.
