After experiencing the scorching heat of the summer over the past month, the North and Northwest regions of the country will finally get to heave a sigh of relief as monsoon is just around the corner.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday that monsoon is on the way and its arrival will be marked by pre-monsoon thunderstorms in the northwestern part of the country from Tuesday itself.

With day temperatures soaring over 45 degree Celsius, the North and Northwest regions including Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, west Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh have had to bear torrid temperatures, heat waves and loo, especially over the last few weeks.

Met scientists told DNA that the gradual drop in temperatures can be attributed to the conditions that are becoming favourable for thunderstorms . M Mohapatra, senior IMD scientist said, “We will see cloudy conditions and thunderstorms that will lead to a decrease in temperatures in North and Northwest regions,”

 The IMD also said, “Subsequently, the advance of southwest monsoon is also likely over parts of northwest India including Delhi between June 28 and July 1,”.

“The prevailing heat wave conditions are likely to abate from northwest India from Monday. A fall of 2 to 3 degree Celsius in maximum temperatures is very likely over northwest India during those days.” it added.
