Sensex surged 181.75 pts to hit a record high of 38,875.86 while Nifty soared 59.25 pts to scale new peak of 11,751.20 on Tuesday morning. Markets were powered by positive sentiments stemming from expectations of better GDP growth figures as well as return of FPIs. Around 602 shares advanced against a decline of 216 shares and 47 shares were unchanged.

Kotak Mahindra Bank, M&M, HDFC, Lupin and Page Industries are among the top gainers while BPCL, HPCL, Titan and Yes Bank are the ones who have lost the most. 

In the opening trade, the shares of Jet Airways rose by around 3 per cent, despite its net loss at Rs 1,323 crore in Q1FY19. Topping the 1,300-mark, RIL shares hit fresh 52-week highs.

The rupee firmed up by 10 paise to 70.06 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Forex market today on selling of the American currency by exporters and banks amid fresh foreign funds inflow.

Besides, the dollar's weakness against other currencies overseas gave the rupee strength, dealers said.
