Indian shares closed higher on Tuesday with BSE Sensex ending at 27,787.62 points up 0.15%.

NIFTY 50 closed at 8,528.55 points, up 19.85 points or 0.23%.

The share market traded flat intraday as Hindustan Unilever posted disappointing results but trade picked up later on as state-run banks gained after the government said it would infuse Rs 22,915 crore in 13 state-run banks.

Among the top gainers were PVR (8.66%), Jaiprakash Associates (5.71%), Jaiprakash Power (5.44%), Hindustan Petroleum coop ltd (5.09%) and Repco Home Finance (4.72%).

The top losers were Mindtree (8.37%), Gujarata Pipavav Port (5.25%), KPIT Technologies (4.03%), McLeod Russel India (3.67%) and FirstSource Solutions (2.85%).
