Bidding on eBay opened Sunday at $25,000. However, that amount was soon forgotten as the amount raced to the sky. The highest bidder escalated the price tag to $1.51 million, reported Business Insider.

This year, the "Power Lunch with Warren Buffett" entered its 19th year. The highest bid so far in 19 years has been $25 million.

Last year, the winner, who preferred to remain anonymous, shelled out $2,679,001 for lunch with Warren Buffett.

Each year, the Oracle of Omaha offers himself up for this bidding war. Buffett conducts this private lunch for charity and offers the money to Glide, a San Francisco-based charity that provides medical care, housing assistance, meals, youth summer programs and other services to the Bay Area's neediest residents.

The winning bidder gets to have lunch with Buffett at Smith & Wollensky, his favorite New York City steakhouse. The winner can invite up to seven friends.

In 2017, Power Lunch with Warren Buffett fell on his birthday. The steakhouse then crafted a "birthday cake extravaganza" of his favorite desserts, reported CNBC in a report.

Interestingly, in all these years, former fund manager Ted Weschler is the only man to have landed a job with Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway after he won two consecutive auctions, spending nearly $5.3 million.
