Encouraged with the enthusiastic response for Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) from different segments of society, the government is toying with the idea to open as many as 1500 more centres in the year 2019. According to the government data, the centres under the PMBJP are creating fresh job opportunities, wherein, so far about 10,000, including 250 women workers, got employment. You can also be part of this plan and begin your own centre under the PMBJP.

A report submitted with Parliament's winter session stated that about 4,677 PMBJP Kendras were functional across the country by end of 2018, providing quality generic medicines at affordable prices to patients. At such Kendra, over 800 generic medicines and 154 small-big medical equipments being made available for common people, it had added. The purpose behind the plan is to provide 80-85% medicines at cheaper prices so as to reduce out of pocket expenses in healthcare. Notably, in case of some medicines the price is fixed at 90 per cent below the MRP of corresponding branded medicines.

Those who are running these kendras get a 20% margin along with 15% incentive on every month's sale. The maximum limit of the incentive is Rs 10,000 per month, and it continues till it covers amount worth Rs 2.5 lakh. Notably, one needs an investment of Rs 2.5 lakh to open PMBJP Kendra, and the whole amount is disbursed through incentives.

Who can open PMBJP kendra?

The government has formed three categories to open a PMBJP kendra. Under the first category, anyone, unemployed pharmacist, doctor, registered medical practitioners can open it; under the second category, a trust, NGO, private hospital, society, and self-help groups are allowed this opportunity; while under the third category, the government nominated agency is authorised to open such kendra. 

To avail this opportunity, a person needs to have a shop of 120 square feet where he would be provided with over 700 generic medicines. 

Income through PMBJP kendra

The income is related to per month sale of medicines. If you are able to sell medicines of Rs 1 lakh, you will have an income of Rs 20,000, as the commission of 20% is fixed over the sale. Initially, you would also get an incentive of 15% on your monthly sale directly debited into your bank account. Thus, on a monthly sale of Rs 1 lakh, you would earn Rs 30,000. 

How to open it?

To open such Kendra, you need to have a license of retail drug sales in the name of Janaushadhi kendra. For putting forth your application, you should have PAN card, Aaadhaar, while NGOs, hospitals, charitable trusts need registration certificates along with PAN and Aaadhaar card to open PMBJP Kendra.

You can download the application form from https://janaushadhi.gov.in/ and send it to the General Manager (A&F), Bureau of Pharma Public Sector Undertaking of India (BPPI). You can find the address from the website. You can also submit you online application by filling up all the details and sent it along with the requisite documents.
