Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the optical fibre network in Bihar as well as laid the foundation for highway projects in the state. The inauguration was done through video conferencing in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. PM Modi laid foundation stone for a total of nine national highway projects. These nine highway projects involve a road length of about 350 kilometers at a cost of Rs 14,258 Crore.

The event was also attended by Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.  

Speaking after the inauguration, PM Modi said that it is important to ensure that internet reaches most villages in India. He said that it will enable students to study. He said that internet has ensure that books are just a click away from students. 

The prime minister also congratulated the farmers about the passing of farm bills. 

“Yesterday, two farm bills were passed in the Parliament. I congratulate my farmers. This change in the farming sector is the need of the present hour and our government has brought this reform for the farmers,” PM Modi said. 

On Sunday, the prime minister had informed through his Twitter handle that he will be inaugurating nine highway projects and Ghar Tak Fibre project in the poll-bound Bihar, stating that the state is going to take important steps towards a digital revolution.  

The Ghar Tak Fibre project will connect 45,945 villages of Bihar through Optical Fibre Internet Service. The project will enable a digital revolution to reach the farthest corner of the state. This project will be executed by combined efforts of the Department of Telecom, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, and Common Service Centres (CSC). 

The Project would also entail implementation of 1 wi-fi and 5 free of cost connections to Government Institutions like Primary Schools, Anganwadi Centres, Aasha Workers, Jeevika Didi etc.

This project will lead digital services like e-Education, e-Agriculture, Tele-Medicine, Tele-law and other social security schemes to be easily available to all citizens of Bihar at the click of the button.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi stated that in the coming time, all the villages of Bihar will be connected with internet service, adding that the project will further enrich the state with a resolve to make internet accessible to households.
