Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of novel Coronavirus infection and announced that he will be addressing the nation on Thursday evening. During his speech PM Modi will talk about issues relating to COVID-19 and efforts being made to deal with it. Prime Minister’s address comes at a time when number of coronavirus cases in India are on the rise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on March 19 i.e. Thursday. His address will start at 8 pm. During his speech, PM Modi is expected to discuss about India’s preparedness, including further enhancing of testing facilities, the government said in a statement.

Coronavirus in India 

Since the outbreak originated in China in December, Covid-19 has spread to over 100 countries infecting more than 200,000 people and killing 8,249 people, according to John Hopkins University's live tracker of the pandemic. In India, there have been three deaths so far— one each in Karnataka, Delhi and Maharashtra.

The coronavirus cases in India rose to 169 on Thursday after 18 fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country, according to the Health Ministry. The cases include 25 foreign nationals -- 17 from Italy, 3 from the Philippines, two from the UK, one each belonging to Canada, Indonesia and Singapore.
